Lessons in Snow

Yesterday I started thinking about lessons learned from snow such as helping your neighbor by shoveling, playing nice (not throwing snowballs in the face), sharing (only one snowball maker), etc.
Then this morning I awoke to find an email in my inbox from Homeschool EStore with their weekly free product. This week's freebie is All About Snow - how absolutely perfect for John and Theresa. I'm going to print out the lesson plans and we are going to learn about many aspects of snow as well as make our first lapbook. I won't start this week since we're doing kitchen science and the next two weeks are then broken up by our trip to Rome but we will start in early December.

Isn't this great? Do you own the book Snowflake Bentley? If not maybe your library has it. It's a wonderful book! Here's a website that you might be interested in using with it: http://snowflakebentley.com/

Thanks! I'm saving this for when we have snow... I know my children will love it!

Just curious, why only one snowball maker? When we were kids and had snow, everyone made snowballs and got in the fray.

Teresa,
I've now added a picture of the snowball maker. John got it for his birthday last year but had already missed 1 of the 3 snowfalls of the year. So far this year we've had 3.

Renee -
I second the recommendation for the book Snowflake Bentley. Another good one is Snowflakes in Photographs. You can get both at amazon.com.

We have that same snowball maker and the snowbrick maker, too. We just haven't had much snow in recent years! My boys are really, really hoping for a lot of snow this winter. I am really, really hoping for NO ICE this winter! :) Snow is much more preferable than the ice we have had in recent years.

Thank you for posting the website -I shall be able to use some of those ideas in January with the class where I volunteer! The town square in Garmisch looks like Fairyland covered as it is in snow! No snow on the horizon here :(
