Saturday's Pilgrimage

Our morning started at the Basilica of St Paul outside the Walls where St Paul is buried.

Our next stop was the Basilica of St Mary Major.

This is a mosaic (late 13th century) of the Coronation of the Virgin. If you click on the pic, it will enlarge and be easier to see.
It is difficult to take pictures in Rome - either they aren't permitted, it's too dark to get a good shot or there is so much to see that you can't take it all in if you're busy taking photos.

By now we were getting hungry but we headed in the direction of the Basilica of St John Lateran. We found a great place to eat and while we ate the sky downpoured. By the time we were done eating, the rain had slowed to a very light sprinkle (if that) and we headed over to St John Lateran.

We then went to the Holy Staircase (which was just across the street) and then went back to St John Lateran for Mass.

Still- my MOST favorite thing I ever did was going to early morning Mass in the front of the Vatican- a side Altar under the Holy Spirit. It glows in my heart even today!
I am SO glad the Lord provided your family with a joyous Thanksgiving trip

Lovely photos.

I've never been to Rome. (We've been to Florence!) It's on my list of places I want to go, along with Venice!

I would LOVE to travel abroad and view all of the architecture myself. I have been to Germany, Austria, and France before, but there are plenty of other countries I would love to visit.
