Our chapel tried a different service to kick off the Advent season and it was fabulous. Thanks to Donna for organizing the prayer service.
First each family was asked to make one or more Chrismons. Basic patterns and materials were available in advance or families could use their own creativity. The only requirement was we were sticking with 8 pre-selected Chrismons and they had to be gold and white.
Here are the Chrismons that my children made. I crossstitched the crown & cross and quickly realized I didn't have the time to stitch all the others. Thankfully Abigail took charge and created the rest with her little siblings.
The service began with a prayer by our post chaplain. Then each of 8 families stood and read verses of Scripture that related to a Chrismon, the family placed their symbol on the tree and then as we sang the first verse of a related song other families placed theirs on the tree.
We ended with a closing prayer by our post chaplain and singing O Tannenbaum.

What a lovely service it sounds to have been! And the singing of O Tannenbaum brings back lovely memories for me. A great way to start Advent :)
The tree looks great!
I love the handiwork.
