Super news!!!!
I was feeling blah today for no real reason other than it's cold, I have a cold and it's winter. Then I got an email late in the afternoon from Madeleine's AP Biology instructor. Her final exam grade was a 94 (A-)... and her grade for the first semester is a 90 (B). I think if she keeps up the hard work, she may even be able improve her grade in the second semester.
I still think North Dakota's grading system is too strict but I figure I can post both her letter and number grade on her transcript for this course. Or if she scores high enough on the AP Biology exam to earn college credits, it won't even matter.

Our son's high school's AP course REQUIRED by AP too have 94 as an A-. It was an AP standard. Teachers are instructed on how to grade. The premise if- if you get an A in an AP course - you should fly through at least the first level of the AP test for college credit (which my son did in Biology- but not in Physics----he refuse to take the test the day after prom:>)
My kids grade school has an odd grading scale too - 94-100 is an A,85-93 is a B, 76-84 is a C, 68-75 is a D and below 68 is an F.
But they got used to it and the kids did well there. By the time they got to high school, their grades were outstanding and have continued to be so in college. It got them used to working hard, so I guess it served it's purpose.
Congrats to Madeleine! She's done a great job.
GOOD WORK!
