Doggy Dilemma

The ticket folks are working on finding a US airline that codeshares with Lufthansa so that Lola can fly with us to AL in mid-June. The airline that has the govt city pair for Huntsville is US Airways and they do NOT take pets at all on their flights. Our next thought was Delta but they don't take pets from 15 May thru 15 September. Then if they find that airline, they need to see if they can get an exception to policy for us to not fly the govt city pair.
We have two other options:
1. Scott and I drive to Frankfurt (about 4 hrs each way with no traffic) and put Lola on a plane there and ship her to Margaret in PA. We've been told that Frankfurt is the only place in Germany that will ship a pet without us being on the same plane. I haven't yet called to see how expensive that will be. I know that coming over here, Lola cost us $250 as excess/oversized baggage plus $300 for the dogsitter in Germany.
2. Bring Lola with me when I go househunting in April and board her from 5 APril until we arrive 16 June. That will definitely be more expensive than her trip to Germany since boarding at a kennel for over two months will be far more than $300.

Maybe you can bring her with you in April and send her on to your friend in PA. At least you know she would be well cared for by a friend. I am leary of kennels. Especially for 2 months.

Renee, our dog, Hershey, had to remain in a kennel for 2 months when we first moved to PA. If we'd had another choice, we would've taken it. Even though the kennel was exceptional, it was very difficult for her.

My one experience with a kennel wasn't good. We kenneled Sam while we went to my parents house for Christmas. He ended up with kennel cough and we ended up with huge vet bills. I am sorry that it is such a mess to get Lola back to the states.
