Yesterday on our way home from a college visit in Florence, I noticed gas was $3.49 a gallon but I forgot to stop and fill up. Today (just before 5pm) I was bringing James to church for a Boy Scout camping trip and stopped for gas (need to go to TN tomorrow for MJ to take the ACT); it was up to $4.09.... just two hrs later I was bringing Abigail to church for youth group and it was up to $4.39... that's nearly a 26% increase..... we are being ripped off.

Are you sure about your Maths there?
And it's still cheaper than ours! Not that that's much compensation to you.
It is cheaper than Europe but at least in Europe, there is public transportation available.... pretty much doesn't exist in the US outside of very large cities
They say it's thanks to speculating on hurricane Ike damage.
Turns out our governor could have stopped it sooner. All he had to do was make a declaration and gas stations would not have been permitted to raise their prices.... unfortunately he waited until too late in the day on Friday.... turns out prices were/are cheaper in TN
My Maths (I love that word) are correct... the price went up 90cents ($3.49 to $4.39)... 90cents divided by $3.49 is .2578796....that's nearly 26% increase.... maybe British Maths is different than American Math - teehee
You're right! I just misread your figures.
Probably why I always did so badly in mathS exams!{g}
Dorothy, I know it's just your decrepitude sneaking up on you again :)
Actually, what took me by surprise was the original gas price you posted--$3.49? I'm not sure I've seen gas that low since last year!
>>Sigh<< I've gotta get out of California...
The highest it had been since we moved here in late June was $3.99 but then it kept falling... until Ike. sigh....
Gas prices are crazy here too. Luckily I work about 1 mile from home, so I can walk to work if it ever stops raining.
Check my blog, Renee. There is a nice surprise for you.
