39 New Saints You Should Know by Brian O'Neel
39 New Saints You Should Know is a short compilation (only 145 pages) of the lives of a wide variety of saints. Why 39? I have no idea. What makes them new? It's not when they lived as some are from as far back as the 1500s but rather the date they were canonized or beatified - none are earlier than 1977. Why should you know them? Because we are all members of the Communion of Saints and we should get to know our heavenly family.
39 New Saints You Should Know includes some better known 'popular' saints like Blessed Mother Teresa, Saint Gianna and Padre Pio as well as the less familiar (at least to this reader) - Nicholas Bunkerd Kithamrung and Saint Gaetano Catanoso (I am ready to read an entire book about this new saint). The author includes the religious, lay people, married couples.. people from all walks of life to be an inspiration to those in the 21st century.
This is not a book to be read in one sitting but rather spread out over time so one can ponder each individual's holy life. This book can be read by young and old - written to be enjoyed by adults and teens alike as we all look for those whom to admire and model our lives upon.

I've heard good things about this one, too! I need to get on whatever list you're on, Renee! :)
Adding this book to my wish list! I love getting to know "new" saints.
Have a blessed Sunday. :)
