Camerado, I Give You My Hand is the biography of Father David T. Link. It's an unusual story because Father Link was married for 45 years, has five children and was a powerful attorney. He was the dean of Notre Dame Law School for more than two decades and active in civil rights since the 1960s. It was while married to Barbara that he began volunteering in a prison which led him to the priesthood after his wife's death.
Father Link's ministry is that of prison chaplain. He ministers to prisoners of all faiths where his compassion demonstrates his value of each human life despite what each man has done in his past. Father Link advocates for a change in our prison system from one of punishment to one of rehabilitation.
I enjoyed reading this book as I was briefly involved in prison ministry while in college. It certainly causes one to look at prisoners as more than just a criminal behind bars.
