Proud of My Son

James went to tonight's Scout meeting intending to run for Instructor or Guide (can't remember which one) and instead he came home the new Asst Senior Patrol Leader (and he's only been with this troop since July) and in six months he'll step up to be THE Senior Patrol Leader. I want to thank Jake (a young man from our church youth group) who nominated James for Asst Senior Patrol Leader of their Boy Scout troop; James had to make a speech on the spot since he hadn't planned one in advance not thinking he would be nominated. I can't believe that this is the same young man that has beem hemming and hawing (that looks weird when written) about completing one last merit badge prior to Eagle project. So tonight he also found a merit badge counselor for World Citizenship.... HOORAY!!!!!!!!!

Yay for James! I wish my son had stayed with Scouts; he got burned out on it in Germany in Webelos and never went back. It's such a wonderful training opportunity for our boys!

I think it can be hard to stay excited about Scouts overseas esp in a small troop. They just didn't have the opportunity to do as much as his troop in FL had done....

Fantastic news. Having a good scout experience can be key to other things. They learn to lead and organize. It is difficult to get those skills without an organization.
MAny of my nephews got to their last few badges before Eagle...and never completed. If he can do it- more power to him. My favorite eagle project? A set of benchs at the lake near fishing ponds. They are used every day!

We keep encouraging (bribing, nudging, pushing and shoving?) James to do that Eagle project
