150 Bible Verses
150 Bible Verses Every Catholic Should Know is a book for any Catholic that wants to know more about the Bible and the Catholic Faith. Patrick Madrid has broken the book into chapters including such important topics as the Sacraments, the Communion of Saints and the sanctity of human life. Each chapter highlights about a dozen passages from Scripture and how they relate to the topic, our faith and our lives.
I was very excited to receive this book for reading and reviewing as I have met Patrick Madrid in person (he came to our military installation in Seoul, South Korea) and loved hearing him speak. This book is not what I thought it would be. I was expecting 150 verses but Patrick provides us with 150 passages (much more than I anticipated). I was also expecting a work of apologetics but Patrick admits himself this is not the purpose - his hope is to introduce us to a wide variety of Scripture, provide verses that will answer questions and help us to deepen our knowledge of and love for Jesus Christ. I think this book would make a great devotional during Advent or Lent - each day focusing on a few passages and maybe even using the lectio divina approach. I also think this book would make a great gift for RCIA candidates or older teens in Confirmation class.
