Wildflowers from Winter

After receiving a phone call from her estranged mother, Bethany leaves the security of her idyllic life in Chicago as a successful architect to visit her long ago friend Robin whose husband is near death. While there she stays with her grandfather on the family farm and plans to make the visit short.

Upon her return to Chicago, the unexpected happens and Bethany is back at the farm but this time as the owner of 500 acres with the farmhouse having been left to Evan (to whom she feels drawn). More misfortune comes her way (don't want to give spoilers) so Bethany moves in with Robin to assist her as she copes with the death of her husband.

Wildflowers from Winter is Katie Ganshert's first published work of fiction but most certainly not her last. She has created likeable characters although a bit predictable. Bethany is a lost soul because of events in her past but through her relationships with both Robin and Evan, she comes to learn the true meaning of Christianity. She and Robin rekindle their childhood friendship and of course she and Evan fall in love (no surprise - any reader will see it coming early). From peeking at the author's website I see that her next book is a sequel to further this story of love. I will be adding it to my TBR list.

You can sneak a peek at chapter one here.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.
